Blog #1 - Mr Evans

The day started as most days started here.  Buildings stood against one another quietly enduring the rain. The storm kept the morning dark and moody. Clouds moved through quickly and some taller buildings were lost among them. A few miles away, the quarry's lake, deep and still, collected the rain.

The parking deck adjacent to The Maitland saw a few cars coming and going. The Maitland's sister building stood on the opposite corner.  Each building stood gazing passively at the other. As the rain shifted between drizzle and downpour, umbrellas waited at crossings, others moved quickly down the sidewalks, and some weaved between traffic or people.

Two days earlier, The Maitland's 3rd level of the parking deck was bustling with police cars and draped in yellow tape. Mr. Evans, an older resident of the building, was found dead in parking spot 303.  Now, only the sagging tape remains. Many knew him as the guy who knew the odds and ends of the building.  He'd lived there for 40 years. The event caused even Lamar to leave the donut shop and snoop around the crime scene.  For some reason, Lamar stayed around the scene for a few hours. Finally, the other cops made him leave. At first, they joked with him trying to get him to move on, after a while, they told him to go.  Turning away, Lamar said, "Well, you'll regret not having me around on this one."
