- Bess Prescott
- The early afternoon light was completely blocked out by my black opaque Bed, Bath, and Beyond curtain my mother had sent to me three care packages ago.
- As I opened the door I was blinded by the florescent lights in the hallway, once my eyes adjusted I knew I wasn't prepared for the conversation that would follow.
- Both sentences contained imagery that was helpful in allowing the reader to imagine
- the scene. The first mentions a mother who lives far away and having black may say something about her personality. The second is a build up for the police interrogations which is important in the story.
-
- “Something about the consistency was comforting, even if I knew they were just his lines.”
- New insight: Bess has a stepmom who’s in a wheelchair. She’s going to go to the police station again for question.
- Tension: Bess may be a primary suspect concerning Mr. Evans’ death even though she seems to have done nothing.
- Qs: Why’d you get back from work at midnight? Do you crave your father’s love/feel deprived because of his second wife?
- Suggestion: Get arrested. Maybe your alibi (boss, in this case) didn’t pan out.
I chose this sentence because it takes a fact about the character, they wake up at 3:00 PM, and related
it to most people. How it was done in such a concise manner and still remains effective within the story
is nice.
“I don't know if it was the storm, or the air of mourning that seemed to penetrate through everyone
nearby but there was a strange quiet that kept me staring at the roof of my 600 square foot flat longer
than normal.”
nearby but there was a strange quiet that kept me staring at the roof of my 600 square foot flat longer
than normal.”
I chose this sentence because it ties in the prompt about the rain and connects that too the character
itself, and also to the rest of the town, “everyone nearby.” It includes everyone into the character’s
own story.
“I often found it hard to sleep through the hustle of morning rush hour, but this morning was different. I don't know if it was the storm, or the air of mourning that seemed to penetrate through everyone nearby but there was a strange quiet that kept me staring at the roof of my 600 square foot flat longer than normal.”

- No blog 2-
- Conflict: Recovering from hurricane? The people pointing at him and laughing at the girl
- What happened to your family? What happened to you during the hurricane?
- In the next blog reveal some emotion he has about the hurricane/family or hint at what happened but leave part of it a mystery to build tension. Also what does he look like? Interact with someone.
Starr Mayz“ After snoozing my phone for the 23rd time I remove the warmth of my bed sheets from my body.
As I shift in my bed I glance out of my bedroom window. The familiar view of dark gray clouds
covering the sky and trees swaying with the wind didn't surprise me.”
The sentences above are very detailed in a form in which the writer is not
dragging the sentence yet, simply making a point as to why that topic is so significant.
The writer relates her morning experience with topics that many can easily relate to,
but also adds specifics such as the amount of times she snoozes her phone to
differentiate herself from the norm.
“Everything was all good until I heard these specific lyrics ¨I used to care of the ghosts and spirits, but things have changed¨. After those words left Conrad´s mouth I got a sudden chill through my spine. “
Friedrich Von Leitmeritz
“For a single moment, Leit thought "Perhaps, just perhaps, this bartender gig isn't my calling."
New insight: The character goes from someone who is excited who loves their job and is excited
to go to work, taking time and energy to look presentable to someone who no longer has interest in
their job and is eager to go back home.
Tensions: The character is very annoyed by the way his business is doing which leads the
character to become easily annoyed by new characters such as Lamar.
Questions: why did you ask Lamar to leave immediately if you had no customers?
Suggestion: Interact with the actual chararcter Nik and the common chararcter Jose, the employees.

- New insight: Mayz is starting to feel the paranormal.
- Tension: ever after Mr.Evan’s death Mayz starts to feel that something is off.
- Questions to ask Mayz: “Do you want to find out who killed Mr.Evans?” If so, How?
- Next blog suggestion: introduce an aberration as a character in order to have character interactions.

- Herman Marshall
- Good connections to the set weather and he noted that Mr Evans is a friend.
- Herman developed the image of having 5 children and grandchildren, which allows the reader to take that he’s older. His dog, Johnny, seems important because he’s mentioned often. The jazz music particularly symbolizes the wisdom and relaxation Herman expresses, landscape paintings.
- The conflict that is mentioned frequently throughout is Herman’s health. He has problems with his back, knees and maybe even arthritis in his hands because they got stiff while playing piano. His internal conflicts may be his dead wife, Ruth.
- Herman’s entire background story remains a mystery.
- I would like to know his age, why/ when he came to The Maitland, Why his dog has so much significance in the blog, where he lives, how his deceased wife passed, and how he met Mr. Evans.
- Bess, Herman and Starr all knew Mr. Evans pretty well
- Christopher, Herman, and Leit all have mysterious, unknown backgrounds
- Somber, saddish tone
- Storm motif
- Lots of negative storylines
Commonalities
